Sharing with you all this piece, which we feel is very much what WE tell brides-to-be issue after issue of Wedding Essentials, about following your heart in choosing the best- in this case, gown for yourself, despite that little bugger called economy, or the other one called `other people`s perception`- because it`s your day. And borrowing the tagline from L`oreal- Because you`re worth it! =)

The trend in wedding gowns is for the bride to follow her heart

Many brides decide what their wedding gown will look like long before they meet their groom. They’re not going to let a little thing — OK, actually a huge thing — like the economy dash their plans for the dream dress.

At a recent round of wedding fashion previews, the designs catered to a variety of tastes and lifestyles. There might have been a little less beading and fewer exotic trims, such as feathers, to keep costs down, but no industrywide movement toward gowns on the cheap was apparent.

“When I try to think of one overriding theme” from the previews, “it’s that brides still want the options for the wedding they want to have,” says Darcy Miller, editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings.

Designer Monique Lhuillier says, “It’s a wedding, a celebration, a new life, a new love, a new chapter. I’m honored to be a part of it and rework the dress to make sure it’s perfect.”

Designer Reem Acra says, “I thought about the ultimate bride and how much we could give her. The perfect look is that she wants to stay young, stay fresh and be able to travel with the dress.” Acra has created some modern and airy silhouettes influenced by a trip to Japan, where she was impressed with the gardens, Zen and an aesthetic of purity.

Designer Nicole Miller says, “If I have a really good-selling evening gown, I’ll do a version for bridal (wear), because I already know the silhouette is selling. I might add beading or longer train.”

Michael Shettel, designer of the Alfred Angelo collection, says sleek and slim is one popular direction for today’s brides; another, at the opposite end of the spectrum, is the modern ball gown.

The way to find the perfect dress, he advises, is for the bride-to-be to try it on and see how it moves, because it’s movement that brings the dress alive.

For those who got interested in Reem Acra`s Japan-inspired wedding gowns, here`s a few WE like from her Fall 2010 collection…

WE also really like this one, still from Reem Acra, that Olivia Wilde wore to the Golden Globes last year. It`s luxe without going over the top. Sweet!
